Abstract

This paper analyses ethical and moral implications of life settlements and viatical settlements. They are very common transactions in the US insurance market but quite unknown in Europe and non-existent in Spain. Life insurance markets have, by their nature, a high degree of information asymmetry and moral hazard. In addition, these agreements are generally made in a situation of fragility of insured’s health and wealth. These issues generate several ethical and moral dilemmas that we reflect on in this work.
